Design of Pulp Molding Dies

The design process of pulp molded products encompasses both the structural design of the product itself and the design of the processing mold, which are interdependent and interconnected. Typically, these two designs need to be carried out synchronously, following three general steps and key considerations:

  1. Initially, the product structure is designed, followed by the design of the mold based on the product structure. This sequence is crucial as the mold is responsible for protecting and securing the product, thus its internal dimensions must align with the overall dimensions of the product.
  2. During mold design, the integral mold is first designed, followed by the design of the molding mold. Given the heightened requirements for size control in the later stages of production, particular attention is paid to ensuring precise size control during the shaping process. This entails designing the size of the shaping mold first, with due consideration to the thickness of the pulp molded products. Additionally, provisions must be made for demolding after integration, necessitating the inclusion of a certain gap size. Furthermore, the molding process subjects the formed products to additional pressure, particularly in terms of thickness, prompting a redesign of the molding die based on the size of the shaping die. Typically, considerations regarding the characteristics of the forming mold and process are made with regard to size, such as the thickness of the net covering wire of the forming mold and size shrinkage post-integral heating.
  3. In mold design, the lower mold is prioritized over the upper mold. Generally, the molding lower mold is designed based on the size of the integral upper mold, while the molding upper mold is fabricated by molding the lower mold with epoxy resin. Furthermore, the alignment between the external dimensions of pulp molded products and the internal dimensions of cartons makes it advantageous to first design the lower die.
