Classification of Pulp Molding Production Processes

In recent years, with the continuous progress and development of pulp molding production technology, processes, and production equipment in China, industry experts have further subdivided the pulp molding production process into the following main types:

  1. Dry Pressing Process: The pulp molding dry pressing production process is a traditional method that separates the molding of pulp into shaping and subsequent processes such as drying, shaping, and trimming. It involves initially forming wet paper molds on the molding machine, then transferring them to an external drying machine for drying (referred to as external drying). Finally, shaping and trimming are performed to complete the entire production process. The production process is simple, with relatively low energy consumption, and is mainly used for the production of egg trays, fruit trays, and general industrial packaging products.
  2. Wet Pressing Process: The pulp molding wet pressing production process has rapidly developed in recent years, with mature production technology widely applied. This process involves completing molding, drying, shaping, and even trimming on a single fully automatic machine (referred to as internal drying). It boasts high efficiency and produces delicate product quality, but the production process has higher energy consumption. It is primarily used for precision-required tableware and high-quality industrial packaging product production.
  3. Semi-dry Pressing Process: The pulp molding semi-dry pressing production process involves pre-shaping paper molds through processes such as air-drying, sun-drying, baking, spraying, dripping, and sprinkling. The moisture content is maintained at around 35%, followed by either internal drying or shaping, resulting in high-quality pulp molded products between wet pressing and dry pressing. Furthermore, its energy consumption is significantly lower than wet pressing, and efficiency is much higher than dry pressing.

All three mentioned pulp molding forming processes belong to the wet forming process. This process disperses raw pulp fibers into water, filters them through a forming screen to create wet pulp blanks, and finally, after drying, shaping, and trimming, results in the finished pulp molding product.

  • Direct Pressing Process: The direct pressing production process involves using roll-shaped or flat-shaped raw pulp sheets or paperboard without disintegration and beating. Without adding water, they are directly loosened or opened. Depending on product requirements, latex resin or suitable additives are sprayed during the conveying process. After forming a loose fiber network on the forming screen, it is processed into pulp molded products through hot pressing and die-cutting equipment.

The direct pressing production process adopts a dry molding continuous pressing method for pulp molding products, representing a significant change in the pulp molding production process. Compared to traditional wet forming methods, the direct pressing production process significantly reduces the substantial energy consumption during the wetting, disintegration, forming, and drying processes of pulp boards.

The direct pressing production process is efficient, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly, attracting widespread attention from professionals in the pulp molding industry.
