High-end dry press pulp trays may also use sugarcane pulp, bamboo pulp, or wood pulp. The raw material is processed through hydropulping and refining to create a slurry with a specific concentration. The pulp slurry is then vacuum-formed using specialized metal or plastic molds, creating wet pulp blanks. These wet blanks undergo drying, hot pressing, and shaping to produce the final molded pulp product.

The dry press pulp molding process involves using pulp fibers with controlled fluidity, forming them into shapes through molds, drying, shaping, and packaging. The key steps in the process include pulp preparation, molding, drying, shaping, and post-treatment.

Currently, dry press and wet press are the two primary production processes, with semi-dry press technology gaining popularity in recent years. The main difference between dry press and wet press is that in dry press molding, the wet pulp blank is dried externally (such as in an oven or air-dried), while in wet press molding, the wet blank is dried within a heated mold. Advantages of Dry Press Molded Pulp Trays

Molded pulp trays are designed according to the geometric shape, specifications, and protective requirements of the product they encase. They provide shock absorption, impact resistance, anti-static properties, corrosion resistance, and moisture resistance, making them an ideal packaging solution for glassware, ceramics, electronics, mechanical components, instruments, tools, toys, mobile phones, and telecommunication devices. Wet Pulp Blank Formation

The most common equipment for this process is the vacuum suction molding machine. It consists of a concave mold and a convex mold, which makes it particularly suitable for custom, small-batch, and fast-cycle industrial packaging.

Drying Process

After pulping and forming, molded pulp products contain high moisture levels and require drying to ensure durability and quality. Three drying methods are commonly used:

  • Natural Sun Drying
  • Basket Line Drying
  • Tunnel Oven Drying (Fast Drying Method)

The oven drying process is the most widely used, employing energy sources such as fuel, gas, or electricity to heat the air to 180-220°C. The heated air dries the molded pulp products, while fans extract moisture to accelerate the drying process.

Hot Press Shaping

Once dried, molded pulp products undergo hot pressing to enhance aesthetic appeal, toughness, and shock resistance. This step utilizes electric heating plates or thermal oils to heat the mold to 180-250°C. Under high temperature and pressure, compressed air or hydraulic pressure molds the pulp tray into its final shape.

Final Processing & Packaging

After hot pressing, molded pulp trays may undergo trimming depending on production requirements. If no additional processing is needed, the products undergo quality inspection, packaging, and storage.
